How to Market Your Business with Your Website

How to Market Your Business with Your Website

Even though the world is telling you Now, Now, Now! Remember this:

All good things take time to build.

So, you have a website… now what?

Here are some practical tips for using your website to market you and your business.

A website is such a crucial piece of running a small business, but the first word that comes to mind is intimidation. I personally have paid thousands for a website only to ask myself… now what? There’s still work to be done with this.

Let’s be honest, you want your website to create income and not cost you more money.

From my failures (and man I have had those) and my successful experiences too, I now have a few practical tips and tricks for you on how to create content that represents you and your brand in the most authentic and genuine way.

Authenticity is the #1 way to attract customers that will pay your worth.

TIP #1 The first mistake I see people make is that they want to appeal to everyone that comes to their site.

STOP.

Studies show that your audience will decide in 6 seconds if this is the right place for them. Allow your content to speak to them LOUD and CLEAR.

This is exactly where you need to be… or it’s not (it’s okay to say goodbye to the wrong audience)! What is your content communicating?

Take a look at your website and let me know, post below, if your website has these three things:

  1. Is your website inviting and easy to navigate?

  2. Are images included that convey the message of your brand?

  3. Does your website include a video?

Tip #2 My second bit of advice is to not fall into the perfectionism trap.

Yes, you need to spend the time and money creating error-free and content-heavy blurbs about yourself, your business, and pro-testimonials. BUT, hire someone to create it if you have to!!

Personally, perfectionism and procrastination were my main two roadblocks to ensuring I never put any content out there. The biggest key for me to get over the fear was… you guessed it, hiring an editor!

A second set of eyes reviewing my work helped unleash my creative genius, so I could get back to what I love: creating content.

Hiring an editor/copywriter was a great tool for me to get over my fear and start doing what I love. However, for you, this might look like hiring a content creator, a website designer, a virtual assistant, or someone else.

If money is tight, ask a friend to read over your work and trade with something they may need. Please find someone you can trust, preferably someone that knows the ins and outs of creating copy that sells.

Tip #3 Create a marketing plan for your website.

Just as your website is a tool that will grow and change with time, so will your marketing plan. This is where structure can bring you HUGE results!

Ladies, we are here to help you grow your business.

Let your website be a tool that works magic for drawing in more of the right audience, even while you sleep!

Tip #4 Choose a lead magnet to drive traffic to your website.

If you are confused about how a lead magnet works, click here to learn more through our blog!

It does not need to be super complicated or perfect (this coming from a recovering perfectionist). It can be a quiz (try interact), a video challenge, an email challenge, an e-book, or even an assessment. These are all great tools to capture leads (aka grow your audience).

Tip #5 I’m not a detail-oriented person, but even I know how important it is to stay clear on the analytics of your website and social media.

Be aware of what is working and was is not.

Truth bomb: there are some things you’ll pour great effort and time into that don’t work well. Like a true business pro, you realign and try again. Facebook, Instagram, and Google Analytics will be your best friend as a business pro in your field.

That’s why having campaigns and a plan will save you a lot of wasted time and money.

Because we all know too well that time is money.

Plan ahead and get out of your own way, so you can use all of these tools to attract your ideal clients, create more connections, and make more money.

Go do it, ladies.

Sheridan Cotrell

I (Sheridan) used to be that visionary business owner with all the balls in the air. I had my master's degree in speech therapy and created a six-figure consulting business in that field. But I didn’t stop there. I created another six-figure business as a health coach, and then one as a business coach for good measure. But the whole time I was trading time for money. I worked a zillion hours a week. Don’t believe me? I have five kids, and in addition to the work stuff, I was an available and committed mother to my children – doing the laundry, ferrying them to activities, and on and on... By outward measures, I looked successful, but on the inside, I was mentally and physically exhausted. I had hit a ceiling in my income and every incremental increase required more from me. I was in constant striving mode, trying to push myself to constantly do more. Until it all fell apart (even typing that makes me quake remembering). I had a major health crisis that caused me to pull the plug on 95% of my business. Almost everything came to a full stop. Which was the best gift I ever received. You see, working hard and learning more skills is not enough. Heart, vision and best intentions are not enough. It’s embarrassing to admit, but I didn’t know what I was doing even though it looked like I did.
